NewsMayor Announces New Start Time For Town Council Meetings
Mayor Walter Jakeway anounced a change in meeting times and frequency at the Dec. 13, 2011 Council meeting. Beginning with the first meeting in 2012, Jan. 10, regular Council meetings will start at 6:30 p.m. every second Tuesday, followed by in-camera meetings. Town council will not take place every week. Jakeway also announced another big change, public hearings will be held separately from regularly scheduled Council meetings on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. during the weeks when regular meetings are not scheduled. Jakeway wants shorter more concise meetings. “This is about improving community discussion,” Jakeway says. Shorter meetings every two weeks are already in place at several larger Island cities and the results are wiser outcomes, less fatigued councilors.” Committee of the Whole meetings (Strategic Committee) are scheduled for Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on alternate weeks to regular meetings. Finance committee meetings to discuss the 2012-16 Financial Plan are scheduled during the months of January and February. A schedule of Council meetings is posted on the City’s website www.campbellriver.ca under City Hall / Council Meetings. Similar StoriesMost Viewed Stories
