Kole Harle, Liam Gilchrist, and Keegan McCooey traveled to Panorama to compete in the Can-Am Western Championships. They were the 3 from Mount Washington to qualify for the event which included western Canada and the northwestern USA. There were 95 boys and 79 girls ages 13 and 14 year who raced in 3 different events: slalom, giant slalom, and skier cross.
The local athletes gained valuable experience competing against the top skiers from the region. Keegan skied well in her first time racing at this top level. As two of the youngest and smallest boys in the competition Kole and Liam were happy to finish in the top 60 in the slalom and giant slalom. And they were very happy to race to an 8th place finish as a team in skier cross.

Kole who is a student at Podium of Life ski academy will spend this week training on the hill after his schooling. He will focus on his freestyle skills as he will compete in the BC Freestyle Championships this weekend which will be held at Mount Washington.
It will be interesting to see how well a racer does in a freestyle skiing event.
