Police report for week of March 18-25

At 1630 hours police were dispatched to a three vehicle collision in front of the Quadra Island Ferry Terminal. A male traveling on the highway was slowing for traffic when he became distracted by packages sliding off the passenger’s seat. The driver then rear ended the stopped vehicle in front of him causing a chain reaction that damaged three vehicles. No one was injured in the collision. The driver was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act.

At 10 06 hours a theft of truck was reported in the 16 block of 14th Ave. The owner reported that his white 1996 GMC truck BC licence plate DD4496 was stolen sometime during the night. The theft is still under investigation.
At 23:00 hours police attended a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at 2nd Avenue and Dogwood Street. The driver of a 2006 BMW was travelling northbound on Dogwood Street through a green light. The pedestrian crossed the intersection from the east side of 2nd Avenue. The vehicle driver did not see the pedestrian until the impact. The pedestrian suffered serious head, face and leg injuries and was transported to Campbell River Hospital then later on to hospital in Victoria. Witnesses were interviewed at the scene and the matter is still under investigation.

At 1300 hours Police responded to a report of a minor collision on 2nd Avenue. Upon arrival it was learned that a 42 year old female driver had backed into 2 parked cars. The driver was located and found to have been consuming liquor. A road side test was administered and subsequent to that the driver was issued a 3 day driving prohibition and charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for Driving without Due Care and Attention. The vehicle was impounded.

At 22:43 hours a RCMP member on patrol noted a vehicle travelling east on Woodburn road in an erratic fashion. The vehicle was stopped. The 52 year old female driver was noted to display symptoms of intoxication by liquor and was arrested. Breath samples were obtained at 3 times the legal limit. The driver is facing charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content over 80 milligrams.
